Calm Mediation supports people to resolve conflict using restorative approaches. Broadly, restorative approaches enable people to come together to improve their understanding of an issue and improve things for the future.
We provide mediation in community settings for neighbours or families in conflict, and in workplaces for colleagues or teams in conflict. We also provide restorative justice (RJ) for those harmed by crime and the perpetrators. We do so under contract to organisations who wish to give their clients or staff access to an independent conflict resolution service, and on an ad hoc basis.
We also offer OCN-accredited training for those who wish to practice as community or workplace mediators or as restorative justice practitioners. For organisations wishing to support their staff to better manage conflict, we also provide bespoke training teaching restorative techniques for everyday use.
We were established as CALM (Confidential and Local Mediation) in 1995 in Hammersmith, London. We amended our name to Calm Mediation in October 2016 to better reflect the wider reach of our services within the Capital.
Calm Mediation is committed to providing the community with access to mediation as an effective and inexpensive means of resolving conflict, and to restorative justice as a process of repairing the harm for victims and offenders. Our community mediation and RJ work is carried out by expert practitioners who give some of their time for the benefit of the community. Calm Mediation is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (Reg No.1161807) and therefore a ‘not for profit’ company; any surplus income is re-invested in the organisation. Calm Mediation is governed by the provisions of the Charities Act 2011 and abides by the Charity Commission rules and guidance.
Our community mediation service is funded through the following local housing authorities and other registered social landlords (RSLs) who wish to provide conflict resolution support for their residents: London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea TMO, Catalyst Housing Trust, Housing for Women, Octavia Housing & Care, London Borough of Hounslow, Notting Hill Housing Group, Shepherds Bush Housing, City West Homes, Genesis Housing, Richmond Housing Partnership, Safer Merton ASB.
Our restorative justice casework is funded by the Big Lottery.
