Volunteer as a community mediation or RJ practitioner
Why volunteer with us?
We have around 50 practitioners on our roster, many of whom have worked with Calm Mediation for several years. As well as finding that providing a valuable service to the community is personally rewarding, our practitioners often comment on our supportive, friendly atmosphere and the opportunities we provide for development, networking and socialising.
- To mediate or facilitate RJ cases at Calm Mediation you must have a recognised accredited mediation qualification. This can be a course provided by us or by another accredited provider.
- For details of our OCN accredited mediation skills courses please visit our training pages.
- If your qualification has been gained through another course provider, we require you to attend four conversion sessions over the course of 12 months to learn our methodology. These are free of charge.
Our case load is varied and interesting and is spread across the Capital, with the majority of mediations in north and west London. Our practitioners always work in pairs and travel to clients’ homes is usually required. We offer cases (at least) weekly to all our practitioners; cases may be during week days or evenings and occasionally at weekends. You may offer to accept a case if it fits with your available time; you are not obliged to take a case. We refund your out of pocket expenses on production of receipts. Support and development:
To ensure that our practitioners are working to high standards and continue to develop their skills, we provide ongoing support and development for them. Each year, we require them to attend: a 1:1 supervision, a group supervision, and a minimum of four sessions from our annual programme of development workshops.
Volunteer in the office
As a small but busy charitable organisation we are often in need of volunteers to help with:
- Marketing, including social media
You will gain experience or brush up your skills in these areas, and get an insight into the running of a small organisation and the field of mediation/RJ. You will be working in a friendly, supportive environment and are welcome to attend the development sessions we run for our practitioners. We pay out of pocket expenses on provision of a receipt.
Join our Board of Trustees
From time to time we are in need of committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees, particularly those with legal, HR, finance or marketing experience, and preferably knowledge of the charity sector.
Trustees have legal responsibilities and are required to attend six general meetings per year and the AGM, as well as the occasional sub-committee. More information about the responsibilities of charity trustees is available from the Charity Commission.
You will gain invaluable experience in a position of trust and be part of a committed group of individuals who pool their skills and experience to ensure the smooth running of a successful charity.
